808 KOASTAL KRAFTS, AKA Manda Malott, has become one of the top selling artists in our Studio Gallery over the past couple of years.
Manda moved to Florence to help with family, and wound up staying, spending her days tending to her plants and making art. Her affinity with Hawaii, and her travels afforded her a wonderful collection of vintage and collectible seashells, which she is now busily turning into amazing and eye catching wall art.
She’s also branched out into a variety of other media, such as upcycling painted plant pots or decorative boxes, small-scale casting, carving, bedazzling, and assemblage. Her themes have evolved from a sense of play and curiosity, a love of nature, and a hearty dose of irreverent fun.
Manda’s career as an artist has taken off, thanks to a wonderful confluence of her love of all things beach-themed; the talent, enthusiasm and humor in her expressive arts, and appreciation from local Coasties and visitors alike. What started as a hobby to help her have something to do, has now turned into a creative career, with her work being sold at a variety of locations around the Siuslaw region.
Manda’s latest offering has also been gaining in popularity – a Dot’N’Sip Night on the fourth Friday evenings of the month here at the Studio. Here, she helps guests learn the dot art method she uses to create her eye-catching mandala stones. Turns out it makes for a fun evening as well!
There’s been talk of adding a more involved workshop or class series, based on interest, which would include time for participants to learn to cast their own mandala stones, and then learn how to paint on the curved surface. If this is something you’d find interesting, please get in touch.
